Clash Royale Season 88 lands today, October 5, 2026, and Supercell is leaning hard into its annual horror theme. The season is called Shocktober, and if you caught the late-September TV Royale stream, you already know the headline: a Hero Electro Wizard and a new Evolution Electro Giant are the two biggest additions to the card pool.

Season 87's events, Academy Antics and Royale Shuffle, shut down the same day, so the arena turns over all at once. Here's what actually changed, what it costs you, and which parts are worth chasing in the first week.

Clash Royale Season 88 Kicks Off With the Hero Electro Wizard

The Electro Wizard has been a steady mid-ladder pick for years, and Season 88 promotes him to Hero status. He keeps the landing zap you know, then layers on more.

Hero Electro Wizard stuns enemies when he drops and on every attack, and he hits two targets at once. That's a straight upgrade over the base card's split-damage trick, which always forced you to think about spacing.

His Hero ability is where things get loud. Activate it, and two beams lock onto the nearest enemies, stunning them and dealing continuous damage as long as the beams stay connected. Against a slow push of tanks, that's a real problem. Against swarms, it's not always the answer you want, since the beams prefer whatever is closest.

If you're a mid-ladder player who has been waiting for an Electro Wizard you can actually build around, this is it. Pair him with a cheap cycle card and the ability recharges fast enough to use twice in a long push.

Evolution Electro Giant Brings the Zap Pack

The second headline addition is the Evolution Electro Giant. Rather than a fresh card, Supercell rebuilt a familiar one around a new mechanic called the Zap Pack.

The Zap Pack charges every few seconds, then releases a shockwave around the Electro Giant. Each pulse strips levels from everything caught in range, and affected troops visibly shrink as they lose power. Supercell compares it to Royale Chef's ability running in reverse.

That's an unusual design. Reducing levels instead of dealing raw damage means the Evolution hits defensive value, not just health bars. A maxed Knight dropped in front of it becomes a weaker Knight, which changes how defenders trade against a big push. The trick is timing your defense around the pulse cycle instead of the Giant's health bar. Let the shockwave fire, then commit your troops.

Shocktober Returns With C.H.A.O.S and a Horror Album Event

Season 88 also brings back C.H.A.O.S for a third run, and it arrives with 20 new cards joining the pool. The modifier rules got a tweak: every modifier you pick shares the same rarity, and you're guaranteed an Epic modifier by your fourth pick. Fewer dead picks, more reason to actually plan a run.

The October Album Event is themed around horror movies, which fits the Shocktober name. You collect Snippets, complete the different Album sections, and unlock rewards as you progress. It's the season-long collectible track, so treat it as a slow burn rather than a weekend grind. If you've played a past Album event, the loop is the same: play matches, earn Snippets, fill sections, claim the big-ticket reward at the end.

The CRL 20 Win Challenge returns too. Reach 20 wins, but three losses knock you out. Same format as before, same pressure.

The Keep the Lights On Community Event

Later in October, Clash Royale adds a community event called Keep the Lights On. The whole player base shares a single goal, and your choices feed a shared energy meter. Some choices keep the power running; others drain it. Where the community ends up decides the reward everyone gets.

It's a weird idea for a competitive game, and the outcome depends on millions of players making the same call. Whether that lands as fun or chaotic is still an open question. Worth logging in for, at least to see which way it goes. Custom events like this tend to be generous with rewards, so the safe move is to check in daily and make whichever choice the community is rallying around, since the final payout is shared rather than individual.

What the Season 88 Balance Changes Actually Shift

The update ships with a balance pass on top of the new cards. The most notable change hits Shade, who is also a Brawl Pass headliner this season. Nerfing a headline reward card the day it arrives is a bold move, and it usually signals that Supercell thinks the card would run away with the meta otherwise.

Balance changes like these matter more than they look. A single damage or timer adjustment can flip which decks climb fastest in the first two weeks, before the wider player base settles into the new normal. That early window is also when win rates are least reliable, because everyone is testing the new cards at once.

Rather than quote every number here, the practical advice is simple: check the in-game patch summary before you rebuild a deck around anything that looks overpowered on day one. Early-season metas are always the noisiest, and a card that feels unbeatable on October 5 can get quietly adjusted a week later. Play the cards you enjoy first and let the ladder settle before you spend gold.

    Playing Season 88 on Android

If you're on a phone, none of this changes how the game runs. Clash Royale stays a portrait-mode, one-thumb battler built for mobile, and the new Hero and Evolution cards slot into the same touch controls you already use.

Should You Jump Into Season 88 Right Away

Season 88 is a safe buy if you play Clash Royale regularly. The Hero Electro Wizard is a genuine new toy, the Evolution Electro Giant changes how you attack big, and a returning C.H.A.O.S run with 20 new cards is a lot of content for one season.

The Shade nerf is the one thing to watch. If you were planning to lean on that card for ladder climbing, check the numbers before you commit resources to it. Everything else can wait until you've had a few matches.

Download the latest version of Clash Royale from APKPure to get Season 88, then start with a practice match against the Hero Electro Wizard to see how the beams behave before you take it into ranked.
