Clash of Clans October 2026 Balance Update and Meta Shift Explained

2026-10-20
Clash of Clans nerfed Fire Heart and Ruin Knights in the October 2026 balance update while buffing P.E.K.K.A, Hog Rider and Frozen Arrow. What changes.
Clash of Clans is a real time strategy game that combines village development with tactical battles.
Supercell shipped the October 2026 balance changes on October 18, and they read like a direct answer to a complaint TH18 players have made for months. The same handful of attacking options decides almost every war. Everything else sits in storage.
The data behind the patch makes that complaint measurable. Dragon Duke with Fire Heart appears in more than half of all Dragon Duke attacks and three-stars about 66% of the time. Ruin Witch three-stars 76% of attacks, the highest rate of any troop with meaningful war usage. Supercell took both down a notch and handed five underused troops something to work with.
What the October 2026 Clash of Clans Balance Update Covers
Every number in the official post comes from TH18 attacks on TH18 bases in Clan Wars and Clan Wars League, tracked over the last four weeks. That's a narrow slice of the game, and it's the slice that matters for competitive war players.
The update touches eight things:
- Fire Heart, Dragon Duke's most-used equipment, gets a nerf
- Ruin Knights, Ruin Witch's summons, get lighter and weaker
- P.E.K.K.A gets more damage
- Hog Rider and Super Hog Rider get more HP
- Miner and Super Miner get more HP at max levels
- Frozen Arrow gets more slow and more damage
- Meteor Golem gets more HP, which also carries to Meteormite
- Portal Pendant gets bonus HP it should have had already
Penny-stock buffs for forgotten troops, real cuts for the two dominant attackers. The shape of the patch says a lot about how Supercell reads the current war meta.
Clash of Clans Fire Heart and Dragon Duke Get Cut Down to Size
Fire Heart's usage numbers explain why it's first. It shows up in almost 40% of all attacks, and in more than half of Dragon Duke attacks. When the same gear appears in nearly half the war log, it's not a choice. It's a default.
The changes hit three separate stats:
- Bonus HP drops by roughly 8% at every level
- Fire Heart no longer adds damage
- Healing falls from 150 to 140 per second at max level
Losing the damage bonus is the real nerf. Fire Heart was doing two jobs, keeping the Duke alive and making his attacks land harder, which is exactly why nothing else in that slot got used. Supercell says it wants the Duke's other equipment to be competitive, and removing the damage component is the cleanest way to make that possible.
Three-star rates before the patch: 66% with Fire Heart, 56% without it, 53% overall. Closing that 10-point gap is the design goal, though nobody knows yet how much of it the nerf actually recovers. Expect Fire Heart to keep showing up. It just won't be automatic.
Clash of Clans Ruin Witch and the Spring Trap Fix
Ruin Witch three-stars about 76% of attacks, the highest of any troop that sees meaningful use. Part of that comes from a trap interaction: Ruin Knights were too heavy for Spring Traps to launch, so they could trigger a trap and walk through it unharmed.
The fix is mechanical before it's statistical.
- Housing space drops from 20 to 18, which makes Spring Traps able to launch them
- The knights move slightly slower with a bit less HP and damage
The housing change is the interesting one. It doesn't touch the knights' raw power. It just makes a defense that already exists on most bases work against them. Spring Trap placement becomes a real counter again, and Ruin Witch attacks have to plan around trap locations the way other troops already do.
The speed and stat cuts compound the problem. Slower knights give single-target defenses more time to finish them off, which matters against inferno towers and scattershots.
P.E.K.K.A, Hog Rider and Miner Get Stat Buffs
Three of the buffed troops share a problem: they show up in fewer than 3% of attacks, with three-star rates in the 20% to 35% band. That's the bottom of the data set.
P.E.K.K.A gets more damage. No HP change, no speed change, just more punch. Damage is the right lever here because her problem was never dying early, it was killing slowly enough that defenses got extra shots in. A damage bump shortens the time she spends in front of each building, which improves her odds without patching over the real issue.
Hog Rider and Super Hog Rider get more HP. For hogs, HP is about surviving the first few seconds after landing, which is when cheap defenses and point defenses decide whether the attack gets going at all. Extra HP buys time to reach a wall break or a jump point without losing a hog.
Miner and Super Miner get more HP too, but only at max levels. That's a buff aimed directly at TH18, since mid-level wars already have mixed troop levels and don't need the boost.
A stat change opens a door. Whether the war community walks through it depends on base layouts and club preferences, not on the patch alone.
Frozen Arrow and Meteor Golem Buffs Explained
Frozen Arrow sits in around 7% of attacks and three-stars about 31% of the time, a tier above the forgotten troops but nowhere near the top. Two buffs land together:
- Slow increases by 5 percentage points at every level
- Damage rises at levels 21-27, with max level going from 168 to 175
Five points of extra slow affects every defense it touches for the whole attack. A 7-point damage bump at max level is a nudge by comparison. The level range means mid-tier players see improvement too, not just maxed accounts.
Meteor Golem gets more HP, and because Meteormite inherits from the Golem, the small spawns get tougher as well. Supercell described the Golem as getting a bit more love than the other underused options while still sitting below average, so treat this as a gentle push rather than a meta change.
Portal Pendant rounds out the buffs with bonus HP that reaches 1,200 at max level. Supercell called the omission an oversight, since Minion Prince's other equipment already grants HP. Straightforward fix, no argument about it.
How the Meta Shifts After the Clash of Clans Update
Two of the strongest attacking tools lost power on the same day. Fire Heart crowds in more than half of Dragon Duke attacks, and Ruin Witch holds the highest three-star rate in the game. Cutting both should flatten the top of the TH18 meta, which is what the patch is for.
The underused troops getting buffs is a different kind of change. Buffs to P.E.K.K.A and the Hog Rider family open options that already have established attack patterns. Clubs that have been running Fire Heart Dragon Duke every war now have a reason to test alternatives.
Expect a week of messy war results before the data settles. Players will try new comps, clans will lose stars to comps they haven't learned, and the war log will look strange.
If you're a clan leader, hold off on punishing players for experimenting. This patch was designed to make experimentation worth something.
What to Watch in the Next Balance Pass
Supercell said it'll keep watching and tweak again if needed. Based on the last few cycles, the next patch lands in roughly a month, and it'll react to whatever this one does.
Three signals to watch:
- Fire Heart usage. If it stays above 35%, the nerf wasn't enough
- Ruin Witch three-star rate after Spring Traps start launching knights
- Whether P.E.K.K.A or Hog Rider breaks 10% usage, which would signal a real return
Final take: the Frozen Arrow slow buff is the sleeper change. A five-point slow bump across every level has effects that don't show up in usage stats right away, so judge this patch by the war log, not by first impressions.

Overall, the Clash of Clans October update is a rebalance, not a rework. Nothing about how you build or upgrade a base changed. Only what wins wars did, and the answer is less obvious than it was a week ago.
